Background information 

This activity was initiated in June 2008. HEUNI together with the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy in Vancouver as well as other members of the PNI, is assisting UNODC in preparing a revision of the 1997 Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence Against Women in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Model Strategies).

The review was discussed by an intergovernmental group of experts at a meeting in Bangkok in March 2009, in which HEUNI participated as an observer expert. A further IEGM is to be organised in November 2009 in Bangkok. The document will be presented for the Crime Commission at its eighteenth session in 2010.
