People’s confidence in the criminal justice system is one requirement for a functional democracy.  Public compliance with the law depends on the legitimacy of institutions of justice and on whether people think they are fair, just and treat everyone with respect. Currently HEUNI participates in an EU funded project called EUROJUSTIS which studies people’s confidence in the criminal justice system from an international and comparative perspective.
